What Makes Boise Homes for Sale So Enticing?
Boise pronounced (Boy-see) was established in 1863 and originally named Fort Boise by the United States Army. Boise is located in what we consider to be high desert. There are many things that draw people here and one of them is the Boise, Idaho weather. Throughout the year Boiseans get to experience all four seasons. On average, we have over 210 sunny days a year, which makes for a lot of time for enjoyment of outdoor recreational activities. In a given year we enjoy hot, dry summer days and moderate winters. Adding to the appeal, Boise has a low crime rate and those numbers even dropped further in 2014.
The Boise Valley area encompasses five separate counties with a total population of 664,422. The Boise Valley contains Idaho’s three largest cities Boise, Nampa, and Meridian. Affectionately referred to as the Treasure Valley. Boise is the third largest city in the Pacific Northwest after Seattle WA and Portland OR.
Boise jobs are plentiful, residents of Boise are subject to a low unemployment rate. As of March 2016, the unemployment rate in Boise was 3.4%. Boise is home to a number of large employers, some of which include Micron Technology, St. Luke’s Hospital, Simplot, Albertson’s and Hewlett-Packard.
Located at the center of the Boise map is Boise State University, Home of the Broncos. As Idaho’s largest college campus, enrollment topped over 22,000 students last year. Alumni and residents alike take an active part in the school’s sports programs, most notably during basketball and football season. In 2014 the BSU’s football team ranked #16 on the AP’s top 25 list and won the Fiesta Bowl Championship.
The Boise School District serves students in elementary through high school in the immediate Boise Area. The Boise School District had two of the top-ranked high schools in the state, based on US News best high schools in 2014.
The Boise Lifestyle
The Boise River runs through town offering an extensive variety of recreation including a favorite family summertime activity of floating the Boise River. Rafters begin at Barber Park and float 6.5 miles or approximately 2 hours downriver to Julia Davis Park. There are 74 parks in Boise.
Boise River Park – Located on the west side of downtown, offering whitewater enthusiasts the opportunity to brush up or get acquainted with whitewater rafting all without having to leave the comforts of town. Phase one of the park is completed with a wave shaper and viewing area.
The Green Belt – A 25-mile path extending throughout the heart of the City of Boise is used for recreation, walking and biking. This tree-lined pathway flows throughout town alongside the Boise River. This Boise staple carries through most of Boise’s major parks and offers an abundance of wildlife as well as an alternative transportation route for commuters throughout the city.
An Angler’s Dream – Fishing is allowed along the Boise River. Idaho Department of Fish and Game regularly stock the river and local ponds with Rainbow trout, Bull trout and Steelhead for anglers throughout the year.
